Overview
The Adi Kailash Yatra is a sacred pilgrimage and trekking expedition in the Kumaon region of Uttarakhand, India. Often referred to as Chhota Kailash, it is considered a divine alternative to the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra in Tibet. This spiritual journey takes devotees through breathtaking Himalayan landscapes, remote villages, and sacred sites, including Parvati Sarovar and the Shiva Parvati Temple. The highlight of the yatra is Om Parvat, where a natural snow formation depicts the holy ‘Om’ symbol, adding to the mystical aura of the region.
The yatra covers a distance of approximately 150-200 km, starting from Dharchula and passing through Gunji, Navidhang, and Jolingkong before reaching Adi Kailash. Trekkers experience diverse terrains, including lush forests, river valleys, and high-altitude meadows, offering stunning views of the snow-capped Himalayas. The best time for this pilgrimage is from May to October, when the weather is relatively stable. Pilgrims seeking spiritual enlightenment and adventure enthusiasts looking for an offbeat Himalayan trek find Adi Kailash Yatra a truly transformative experience.
