The Valley of Flowers Trek is an extraordinary journey through the lush meadows of Uttarakhand, famous for its breathtaking alpine flora. Located at the foothills of the Zanskar mountain range, this UNESCO World Heritage site is home to a vast variety of wildflowers, making it a paradise for nature lovers and photographers alike. The trek offers a chance to explore the pristine beauty of the Himalayas while being surrounded by vibrant colors of blooming flowers like orchids, poppies, and marigolds, set against towering peaks and glistening glaciers.

The trek is relatively easy to moderate, making it suitable for beginners and experienced trekkers alike. The Valley of Flowers, at an altitude of 3,858 meters (12,650 feet), is best visited during the monsoon season when the valley is covered with a colorful carpet of flowers. The trek is a perfect blend of adventure, spirituality, and natural beauty, with a visit to the sacred Hemkund Sahib, a prominent Sikh pilgrimage site.

Itineary

Day 1 — Rishikesh to Govindghat (6,000 ft) (Drive/270 km) (9-10 Hours)

  • Drive from Rishikesh to Govindghat via Devprayag, Rudraprayag, Karnaprayag, and Nandaprayag.
  • Enjoy scenic views of river valleys and confluences along the journey.
  • Arrival at Govindghat by evening, check into a guest house and rest for the trek ahead.

Day 2 — Govindghat to Ghangaria (10,000 ft) (13 km Trek) (6-7 Hours)

  • Start trekking from Govindghat following the Pushpawati River.
  • The well-paved trail offers gradual ascents with lush greenery, waterfalls, and wooden bridges.
  • Reach Ghangaria by evening and check into a guest house.

Day 3 — Ghangaria to Valley of Flowers and Back (11,500 ft) (8 km Trek) (6-7 Hours)

  • Trek to the mesmerizing Valley of Flowers, home to rare Himalayan flora.
  • Explore vibrant meadows filled with alpine flowers like blue poppies, orchids, and primulas.
  • Enjoy breathtaking views and return to Ghangaria for an overnight stay.

Day 4 — Ghangaria to Hemkund Sahib and Back (15,200 ft) (12 km Trek) (7-8 Hours)

  • Trek to Hemkund Sahib, a revered Sikh pilgrimage site at 15,200 ft.
  • Visit the Gurudwara and pristine Hemkund Lake surrounded by snow-clad peaks.
  • After exploring the serene environment, trek back to Ghangaria for an overnight stay.

Day 5 — Ghangaria to Govindghat (6,000 ft) (13 km Trek) and Drive to Joshimath (25 km) (5-6 Hours)

  • Trek down from Ghangaria to Govindghat along the same scenic trail.
  • Upon arrival at Govindghat, drive to Joshimath and explore local temples.
  • Check into a guest house and rest for the night.

Day 6 — Joshimath to Rishikesh (270 km Drive) (8-9 Hours)

  • Depart from Joshimath early morning for the return journey.
  • Drive through the beautiful landscapes of Uttarakhand.
  • Reach Rishikesh by evening, marking the end of your trek.

Departure Dates

Day 1:- 8/9 hours drive from Haridwar to Joshimath. For Without Transport :- Taxi and Buses easily available from haridwar and Rishikesh between 4 Am to 5 Am
Day 2:- Drive from Joshimath (6,150 ft) to GovindGhat (6,300 ft). Trek to Ghangria (9,843 ft); 5-6 hours, 13 km + 20 km drive
Day 3:- Ghangria (9,600 ft) to Valley of Flowers (11,500 ft) and back; 6 hours, 4 km each way
Day 4:- Ghangria (9,600) to Hemkund Sahib (14,107 ft) and back; 8-9 hours, 5.5 km each way
Day 5:- Trek from Ghangria (9,600 ft) to Govind Ghat (6,300 ft). Drive to Joshimath (6,150 ft); 5 hours, 12 km trek + 20 km drive
Day 6:- Depart from Joshimath. You will reach Haridwar between 6.00 pm and 7.00 pm.

On Day 6, you’ll reach Rishikesh between 6:00 pm and 7:00 pm. You can book your travel any time after 8:00 pm.

How to Reach

By Train Rishikesh is the nearest railway station. 273 km from Govind Ghat. You can avail a taxi or bus service to reach Govind Ghat.

By Air The nearest airport is Jolly Grant, located 292 km from Dehradun.

By Bus Govind Ghat is well connected by buses to Delhi and other major destinations of Uttarakhand like Rishikesh, Pauri, Chamoli, Ukhimath Srinagar, etc.Govind Ghat is situated on NH 58.

The above trek cost includes transport to and from base camp.
Safety equipment
First aid, medical kit, oxygen cylinders, stretchers, Walkie-Talkie etc. will be available at campsite.
Accommodation
Stay is included from Day 1 to Last Day. Tents/Homestays/lodges will be provided. Tripple sharing Accomodation and seprate accomodation for girls/ladies will be povided
Meals
All meals from dinner on Day 1 to breakfast at Last day are included. Veg food will be provided during the trek.
Permits/ Forest fees
UTT will arrange trekking permits and forest passes.
Experienced Trek Leader & Team
Qualified trek leaders haing in basic / advanced mountaineering courses certificates/ degrees will assiston trek.
Other staff member includes qualified cooks, helpers and porters.

Exclusions


Food during transit to and from the base camp
Food would not be provided during transit and trekkers have to bear the cost at their own.
Mule and Porter charges
Generally we expect trekkers to carry their bag-pack and luggage themselves. For those who wish to use Mule/Porter need to pay Rs 350 per day for same.
Personal Expense
Personal Expense of any kind. The trek cost does not include stay at any location on last day

There is no ATM facility available in Ghangaria. So Trekker can withdraw the cash from the previous location like Joshimath and Pipalkoti where plenty of ATMs are available.
