The Uttarakhand sports department is organizing a Ganga Half Marathon/Run for Fun on October 26 to create awareness about the importance of keeping Ganga clean. The half marathon will kick off from the tri-junction of Rishikesh PG College at 7am and will end at Har Ki Pauri in Haridwar. A separate ‘Run for Fun’ race of 2 km will also be organized between Triveni Ghat in Rishikesh and IDPL City gate in Rishikesh and between Shantikunj and Har Ki Pauri in Haridwar. “The whole aim of the half marathon and Run For Fun races is to create awareness among the stakeholders and general public about the importance of keeping Ganga clean,” said sports minister Dinesh Agarwal. To ensure maximum participation, the sports department has announced generous cash rewards. The winner of the half marathon will be get richer by Rs 1 lakh while the second and third sport winner will get Rs 75,000 and Rs 50,000 cash prizes, respectively. Significantly, the participants remaining between 4th and 11th position will get Rs 10,000 as encouragement award.
