The gods, unable to withstand the onslaught, approached Goddess Parvati, who then manifested as Chandi to destroy the demons. Chandi engaged in a fierce battle with the demon generals Chanda and Munda, ultimately defeating them. The goddess then took her abode on the Neel Parvat hill, where the Chandi Devi Temple now stands.
