Daksha Mahadev Temple is a significant Hindu temple located in Kankhal near Haridwar, Uttarakhand, India. Mythological Significance:
The temple is named after King Daksha, who was the father-in-law of Lord Shiva. According to Hindu mythology, Daksha organized a grand yagna (sacrificial ritual) but did not invite Lord Shiva, his son-in-law. Sati, the wife of Shiva and Daksha’s daughter, felt deeply hurt by the exclusion and immolated herself in the yagna fire.
In grief and anger, Lord Shiva sent Virabhadra, a fierce manifestation, who disrupted the yagna and beheaded Daksha. Later, Daksha was restored to life, and the temple is believed to be the place where Shiva forgave Daksha and granted him his life back.
