The Nanda Devi East Base Camp Trek is a challenging and adventurous trekking route located in the Indian state of Uttarakhand. It takes you to the base camp of Nanda Devi East, which is the 23rd highest mountain in the world, with an elevation of 7,434 meters (24,390 feet).

Trek Duration: The trek typically takes around 12-14 days to complete, including both the ascent and descent.

Trek Difficulty: The Nanda Devi East Base Camp Trek is considered a difficult and demanding trek. It requires good physical fitness, prior trekking experience, and the ability to withstand high-altitude conditions.

Trek Route: The trek starts from the village of Munsiyari, which is the base camp for several treks in the region. From Munsiyari, you begin the ascent towards Nanda Devi East Base Camp. The route takes you through dense forests, charming villages, meadows, moraines, and eventually reaches the base camp, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding Himalayan peaks.

Itineary

Day 1 : Arrive Kathgodam and drive to Munsiyari

  • Hrs :10 altitude - 7100 ft km:340
  • Reach Kathgodam at 06:30.
  • Arrive in Munsyari by evening.
  • We'll arrange your hotel stay and dinner.
  • The rooms will be set up for twin or triple sharing.
  • Overnight stay in Munsyari.

Day 2 : Trek from Munsiyari to Lilam (2000 M)

  • 2-3 Hrs trekking km:72
  • The trek today is simple and planned so for better acclimatization.
  • After breakfast at the hotel, we take a taxi to the final roadhead at Selapani (10 km away).
  • . The trek begins with a steep descent to Gori Ganga River.
  • Residents of Milam Village spend the winter in Lilam (Closer to Milam Glaciar).
  • Few families still go to Milam in the summer, despite the fact that the majority of people have settled permanently in Lilam.
  • We will arrive in Lilam by late afternoon.Camps overnight stay.

Day 3 : Trek from Lilam to Bugdiyar (2700 M)

  • Hrs: 6-7 trek km: 13
  • We will trek in the same gorge.
  • A bamboo thicket and conifer trees line the trail that runs parallel to the river.
  • After about 5 Kms we come to a point where a steam called Ralam meets Gori Ganga.
  • While trekking alongside the river, we reach Bugdyar, a lovely camping location.
  • In Bugdyar, there is a monument honouring the soldiers and villagers who perished in an avalanche in 1989.
  • A brutal reminder of the harm that nature's wrath may cause to a location and its inhabitants.
  • Camps overnight stay.

Day 4 : Trek from Bugdiyar to Rilkot (3200 M)

  • 7-8 Hrs km:15
  • Cross the bridge over the river.
  • The initial ascent is difficult to a diety protected by an overhanging cliff. The trek then begins to ease out.
  • Now you are walking at the level of river parallel to it. This is probably the best section of the complete trail.
  • There are two impressive waterfalls nearby, each of which have a height of at least 80 metres.
  • The trail ascends gradually till we reach Rilkot by late afternoon.
  • Overnight stay in camp.

Day 5 : Rilkot to Ghangar (3300 M)

  • Hrs: 6-7 trek km:12
  • We are above the tree line & the region is arid now.
  • Until we reach Burphu, the villages along the way remain desolate.
  • Behind the village you can spot Burphu Peak (6300 M).
  • The Pachu valley, which leads to Nanda Devi base Camp, is now being entered.
  • Beautiful Johari homes can be found in the tiny settlement of Ghangar (3340 M). Beautifully carved wooden doors & windows.
  • The village also contains an old temple. From here, you can also see Nanda devi East's eastern side.
  • Overnight stay in camp ,and enjoy the all peaks.

Day 6 : Trek from Ghangar to Nanda Devi east Base Camp. (3900 M)

  • Hrs:3-4 Km:7
  • The narrow trails climb steadily into the Pachhu Valley, through small stretches of tiny rhododendron & birch trees.
  • The North Face of Nanda Devi East, which is located above the Pachhu Glacier, dominates the view the most.
  • In the later half, the valley opens up to reveal beautiful, lush alpine meadows.
  • A lovely campground is located not far from Nanda Devi's foot.
  • Overnight in Campsite.

Day 7 : Nanda Devi East Base Camp

  • Day for rest & exploring the surroundings utilize this day to soak in the beauty of this amazing place.
  • Today, photographers may make good use of their cameras.
  • Enjoy the campground and relax.

Day 8 :Trek from Nanda Devi East Base camp to Rilkot

  • Hour:7-8 trek km: 19
  • Trek along the same path from Base Camp to Rilkot.
  • Overnight in Rilkot.

Day 9:Trek from Rilkot- Bugdyar

  • Hour:6-7 trek km: 15
  • Trek from Rilkot to Bugdyar following the same route.
  • Overnight stay in camp.

Day 10 : Bugdyar – Munsyari

  • Hour:7-8 trek km: 20
  • Trek from Bugdyar to Munsyri fol.

Transport to and from the base camp
The above trek cost includes transport to and from base camp.
Safety equipment
First aid, medical kit, oxygen cylinders, stretchers, Walkie-Talkie etc. will be available at campsite.
Accommodation
Stay is included from Day 1 to Last Day. Tents/Homestays/lodges will be provided. Tripple sharing Accommodation and separate accommodation for girls/ladies will be provided
Meals
All meals from dinner on Day 1 to breakfast at Last day are included. Veg food will be provided during the trek.
Permits/ Forest fees
UTT will arrange trekking permits and forest passes.
Experienced Trek Leader & Team
Qualified trek leaders haing in basic / advanced mountaineering courses certificates/ degrees will assist trek.
Other staff member includes qualified cooks, helpers and porters.

Exclusions


Food during transit to and from the base camp
Food would not be provided during transit and trekkers have to bear the cost at their own.
Mule and Porter charges
Generally we expect trekkers to carry their bag-pack and luggage themselves. For those who wish to use Mule/Porter need to pay Rs 350 per day for same.

Personal Expense of any kind. The trek cost does not include stay at any location on last day
