Kushkalyan Bugyal is a high altitude meadow located in the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand, India. It is situated at an altitude of around 3,500 meters above sea level and is a popular trekking destination among adventure enthusiasts.The word “Bugyal” in local language means meadow, and Kushkalyan Bugyal is known for its scenic beauty and stunning views of the surrounding snow-capped mountains. The meadow is also known for its rich biodiversity, with a variety of flora and fauna found in the region.The trek to Kushkalyan Bugyal starts from a small village called Tolma, which is accessible from Joshimath town. The trek is of moderate difficulty and takes around 4-5 days to complete. During the trek, one passes through dense forests, streams, and high altitude meadows, offering breathtaking views of the Himalayas.
The best time to visit Kushkalyan Bugyal is from May to October when the weather is pleasant, and the meadow is covered with vibrant flowers. However, it is advisable to check weather conditions and obtain necessary permits before embarking on the trek.

Itineary

Day 1 : Dehradun to Sankri (200 km, 7-8 hours)

  • You will start your journey from Dehradun early in the morning and drive to Sankri.
  • This serves as the Kushkalyan Bugyal trek's base camp.
  • The drive will take around 7-8 hours, and you will pass through beautiful villages and towns along the way.

Day 2: Sankri to Taluka (12 km, 1-2 hours)

  • From Sankri, you will drive to Taluka, which is the starting point of the trek.
  • The drive will take around 1-2 hours.
  • You will begin your Trek to Seema from Taluka. The trek to Seema is around 14 km and will take around 6-7 hours.
  • You will pass through beautiful forests and streams along the way.
  • Stay overnight in the camps.

Day 3 : Seema to Kalkatiyadhar

  • Trek 9 km, 4 - 5hrs
  • From Seema, you will trek to Kalkatiyadhar, which is around 9 km and will take around 4-5 hours.
  • You will pass through beautiful meadows and small streams along the way.
  • The campground is located alongside the river in the lush meadow outside of Kalkatiyadhar.
  • Stay overnight in the camps.

Day 4 : Kalkatiyadhar to Kushkalyan Bugyal

  • 7 km, 3-4 hrs
  • From Kalkatiyadhar, you will trek to Kushkalyan Bugyal.
  • Which is around 7 km and will take around 3-4 hours.
  • You will pass through beautiful meadows and streams along the way.
  • The trek is easy downwards.
  • Stay overnight in the camps.

Day 5 : Kushkalyan Bugyal to Kalkatiyadhar (7 km, 3-4 hours)

  • In the morning, get a walk to the Base camp along a narrow.
  • You will spend the day at Kushkalyan Bugyal and explore the surroundings.
  • In the evening, you will trek back to Kalkatiyadhar.
  • Which is around 7 km and will take around 3-4 hours.

Day 6 : Kalkatiyadhar to Taluka

  • 16 km, 6-7 hours
  • From Kalkatiyadhar, you will trek back to Taluka.
  • , Which is around 16 km and will take around 6-7 hours.
  • Dinner and overnight stay in tents.

Day 7 : Taluka to Sankri

Day 8 : Sankri to Dehradun

Transport to and from the base camp
The above trek cost includes transport to and from base camp.
Safety equipment
First aid, medical kit, oxygen cylinders, stretchers, Walkie-Talkie etc. will be available at campsite.
Accommodation
Stay is included from Day 1 to Last Day. Tents/Homestays/lodges will be provided. Tripple sharing Accommodation and separate accommodation for girls/ladies will be provided
Meals
All meals from dinner on Day 1 to breakfast at Last day are included. Veg food will be provided during the trek.
Permits/ Forest fees
UTT will arrange trekking permits and forest passes.
Experienced Trek Leader & Team
Qualified trek leaders haing in basic / advanced mountaineering courses certificates/ degrees will assist trek.
Other staff member includes qualified cooks, helpers and porters.

Exclusions


Food during transit to and from the base camp
Food would not be provided during transit and trekkers have to bear the cost at their own.
Mule and Porter charges
Generally we expect trekkers to carry their bag-pack and luggage themselves. For those who wish to use Mule/Porter need to pay Rs 350 per day for same.
Personal Expense
Personal Expense of any kind. The trek cost does not include stay at any location on last day
