Lamkhaga Pass Trek

Lamkhaga Pass Trek is a challenging high-altitude trek in the Himalayas of India, connecting the Kinnaur district of Himachal Pradesh with the Uttarakhand region. The trek takes you through beautiful landscapes of dense forests, green meadows, glacial valleys, and high mountain passes, offering stunning views of snow-capped peaks.The trek starts from the small town of Chitkul in Kinnaur and goes through the villages of Nagasti, Harsil, and Gangotri before reaching the Lamkhaga Pass at an altitude of 5,282 meters (17,323 feet). From there, the trek descends to the beautiful village of Chitkul.The trek is quite challenging and requires a good level of fitness and acclimatization. It usually takes around 12-14 days to complete the trek, and the best time to go is from mid-June to mid-October. However, it’s always advisable to check the weather conditions and plan accordingly.

Itineary

Day 1: Arrival in Shimla

  • Arrive in Shimla, the capital city of Himachal Pradesh.
  • Take some time to explore the city and acclimatize to the altitude.

Day 2: Shimla to Chitkul (3,450 meters)

  • Drive from Shimla to Chitkul, a beautiful village located on the banks of the Baspa River.
  • Spend the day exploring the village and acclimatizing to the higher altitude.

Day 3: Chitkul to Rani Kanda (3,900 meters)

  • Start the trek from Chitkul and hike to Rani Kanda.
  • The trail takes you through scenic landscapes, including dense forests and meadows.
  • Set up camp at Rani Kanda for the night.

Day 4 : Rani Kanda to Dumti (4,300 meters)

  • Continue the trek from Rani Kanda to Dumti.
  • The trail involves steep ascents and descents, and you'll be surrounded by stunning views of snow-capped peaks.
  • Camp overnight at Dumti.

Day 5 : Dumti to Gundar (4,500 meters)

  • Trek from Dumti to Gundar, which is located at a higher altitude.
  • The trail becomes more challenging as you gain elevation.
  • Enjoy the panoramic views of the surrounding mountains. Set up camp at Gundar.

Day 6 : Gundar to Lamkhaga Base Camp (4,800 meters)

  • Hike from Gundar to the Lamkhaga Base Camp.
  • The trail becomes steeper and involves crossing a glacier.
  • Reach the base camp and rest for the night.

Day 7 : Lamkhaga Base Camp to Lamkhaga Pass (5,282 meters) to Base Camp (4,800 meters)

  • This is a challenging day as you cross the Lamkhaga Pass, which is the highest point of the trek.
  • The pass offers breathtaking views of the snow-capped peaks.
  • Descend to the base camp on the other side of the pass and camp overnight.

Day 8 :Base Camp to Chitkul (3,450 meters) )

  • Descend from the base camp to Chitkul, retracing your steps.
  • It's a long day of hiking, but the downhill trail is relatively easier.
  • Reach Chitkul and rest for the night.

Day 9 : Chitkul to Shimla

  • Drive back from Chitkul to Shimla, marking the end of the trek.
  • Rest and relax in Shimla, and celebrate the completion of the challenging Lamkhaga Pass Trek.

Transport to and from the base camp
The above trek cost includes transport to and from base camp.
Safety equipment
First aid, medical kit, oxygen cylinders, stretchers, Walkie-Talkie etc. will be available at campsite.
Accommodation
Stay is included from Day 1 to Last Day. Tents/Homestays/lodges will be provided. Tripple sharing Accommodation and separate accommodation for girls/ladies will be provided
Meals
All meals from dinner on Day 1 to breakfast at Last day are included. Veg food will be provided during the trek.
Permits/ Forest fees
UTT will arrange trekking permits and forest passes.
Experienced Trek Leader & Team
Qualified trek leaders haing in basic / advanced mountaineering courses certificates/ degrees will assist trek.
Other staff member includes qualified cooks, helpers and porters.

Exclusions


Food during transit to and from the base camp
Food would not be provided during transit and trekkers have to bear the cost at their own.
Mule and Porter charges
Generally we expect trekkers to carry their bag-pack and luggage themselves. For those who wish to use Mule/Porter need to pay Rs 350 per day for same.
Personal Expense
Personal Expense of any kind. The trek cost does not include stay at any location on last day
