Barhmatal Trek
The Brahmatal Trek is one of the most popular winter treks in Uttarakhand, offering a perfect blend of adventure, scenic beauty, and Himalayan culture. Located at an altitude of 12,250 ft, this trek is famous for its snow-covered trails, frozen alpine lakes, and breathtaking views of Mt. Trishul (7,120 m) and Mt. Nanda Ghunti (6,309 m).
Starting from Lohajung village, the trek takes you through dense oak and rhododendron forests, serene alpine meadows, and two high-altitude glacial lakes – Bekaltal and Brahmatal Lake. During winters (December to March), the entire trail is blanketed with fresh snow, making it one of the most recommended snow treks in India.
The highlight of the trek is reaching the Brahmatal Summit, which offers a 360° panoramic view of the Garhwal Himalayas, including peaks like Trishul, Nanda Ghunti, Chaukhamba, Kamet, Neelkanth, and Hathi Ghoda Parvat.
Unlike other high-altitude treks, Brahmatal is relatively easy to moderate, making it suitable for both beginners and experienced trekkers. The well-defined trail, gradual ascents, and availability of homestays at Lohajung make it a safe and comfortable trekking experience.
