Overview
The Tungnath Temple and Kedarnath Dham are two of the most revered pilgrimage sites in the Himalayas, each holding deep spiritual significance for devotees of Lord Shiva. Kedarnath Dham, one of the twelve Jyotirlingas, stands at an altitude of 3,583 meters, surrounded by snow-capped peaks and the Mandakini River. Pilgrims undertake a sacred 16 km trek from Gaurikund to seek blessings at the Kedarnath Temple, a site steeped in mythology and devotion. The spiritual aura, along with the breathtaking landscape, makes it a divine experience for visitors.
Located at 3,680 meters, Tungnath Temple is the highest Shiva temple in the world and is a part of the Panch Kedar pilgrimage circuit. This sacred temple is believed to be where Lord Shiva’s arms appeared after he took the form of a bull to evade the Pandavas. The 3.5 km trek from Chopta to Tungnath is filled with scenic meadows, rhododendron forests, and panoramic views of the Himalayas. Many pilgrims also extend their journey to Chandrashila Peak (4,000 meters) for a breathtaking sunrise.
