Utttarakhand Trip Trek: Yamunotri Dham Yatra Yammnotri Dham

Yatra Overview

Yamunotri Dham is one of the four sacred pilgrimage sites known as the Char Dham Yatra, which holds significant importance in Hinduism. It is situated in the Uttarkashi district of the state of Uttarakhand, India. The other three sites in the Char Dham Yatra are Gangotri, Kedarnath, and Badrinath.

Yamunotri Dham is primarily dedicated to Goddess Yamuna, who is considered the embodiment of the Yamuna River. The temple at Yamunotri is an important destination for Hindu devotees seeking spiritual enlightenment and purification. The temple’s history dates back centuries, and it is believed to have been originally built by Maharani Guleria of Jaipur in the 19th century. The temple was later renovated and reconstructed due to natural disasters.

The main attraction at Yamunotri is the Yamunotri Temple, which is perched at an altitude of approximately 3,293 meters (10,804 feet) above sea level. The temple is surrounded by stunning natural beauty, including snow-capped mountains and lush greenery. One of the most prominent features of the temple is the hot water spring, known as the “Surya Kund,” where devotees can cook rice and potatoes as an offering. The temple opens its doors to pilgrims during the summer months, usually from May to November, as extreme winter conditions make the region inaccessible during the rest of the year.
