Kedarkantha Trek

Fringed with pine trees and adorned with the beauty of snow, the Kedarkantha Peak is one of the most sought after snow-trekking destinations in the country. Situated at a height of 3,800m above the sea level, the trek to this mountain pass in Uttarakhand offers various levels of challenges to the trekkers. Offering an enthralling trekking experience, Kedarkantha winter trek usually originate from Sankri; which can be easily reached from Dehradun and takes the trekkers through the immaculate beauty of the vicinity. From snow-capped Himalayan peaks to a frozen pond, meadows covered with snow to some of the other mesmerising peaks, this trek offers all the marvels, a trekker can wish for! Not just for the trekkers, Kedarkantha winter trek is also an ideal trek for the nature lovers, shutterbugs and other classes of travellers as well. Within the 6 exciting days of this expedition, the trekkers are rewarded with magical views, exhilarating experiences and delightful moments!

Itineary

Day 1 : Train from Delhi to Haridwar

  • Overnight Train Journey.
  • Board the overnight train NDLS Dehradun A/C Express which leaves New Delhi at 11:55 PM and arrive in Haridwar by early morning (next day); at around 04: 00 AM.

Day 2 : Trek from Khatling Glacier Camp-I to Khatling Glacier Camp-II (4,210 m)

  • Heart of the Himalayas, Amazing Views.
  • Today’s trek will be an exciting one as it will take you to the heart of the Himalayas.
  • Enjoy the amazing views of the lofty peaks, scenic glaciers and the complex ice formations and reach the Khatling Glacier Camp-II.
  • Overnight stay in camps.

Day 3 : Trek from Khatling Glacier to Khatling Cave/Tambakund (3,400 m)

  • Bhilangana River, Glaciers
  • After the day’s breakfast, start descending through the glacial moraines and make it.
  • The views of the ice walls that reach hundreds of feet are simply stunning and is a true delight for the trekkers; the Bhilangana River also adds to this awe-inspiring view.
  • Arrive at Khatling Cave or Tambakund, retire for the day in camps.

Day 4 : Buffer/Contingency Day

  • Buffer Day
  • This day will serve as a buffer day if in case, bad weather hits the itinerary.
  • Overnight camping in Khatling Cave.

Day 5 : Trek from Khatling Cave to Kharsoli (2,880 m)

  • Streamside Camping
  • On this day, you will be treading through the lush oak, birch, deodar, fir and rhododendron forests.
  • Arriving in Kharsoli, you will be camping beside a gushing stream.

Day 6 : Trek from Kharsoli to Gangi (2,650 m)

  • Bhilangana River, Scenic Thickets
  • Waking up in the morning, continue with a walk through the dense forests; after trekking for long in higher altitudes, you can expect a bit warmth during your descend.
  • On the way, expect a steep climb after passing the few houses beside the Bhilangana River.
  • Overnight stay will be at a camp/guesthouse in Gangi..

Day 7 : Trek from Gangi to Ghuttu (1,550 m)

  • Pine Forests, Reeh Village, Auden's Col Trek Ends Here
  • Today will be a long day and you will be descending through pine forests and make your way through the Reeh Village.
  • The trek gets over at the road-head, 4 km away from Ghuttu.
  • Overnight stay will be at a guesthouse in Ghuttu.

Day 8 : Drive form Ghuttu – Haridwar, Train from Haridwar – Delhi

  • Tour Ends Here
  • On the last day of this expedition, start off in a relaxing mode and drive towards Haridwar, from where you can board the Shatabdi Express to reach Delhi by 10:45 PM.

Day 9 : Drive from Haridwar to Uttarkashi (1,110 m) (7 hours)

  • Arrival in Haridwar, Leisure Day
  • After reaching Haridwar, board a vehicle and drive straight to Uttarkashi which is a 7-hour journey; en route, have breakfast.
  • Arriving in Uttarkashi, check-in into a hotel and spent overnight.

Day 10 : Drive from Uttarkashi to Gangotri (3,050 m)

  • Bhairon Ghati, Ganga Aarti, Harsil
  • On this day, you will be driving through Harsil, which is home to the famous 'Wilson Apple' followed by Bhairon Ghati, the course of the Bhairav Ganga river upon which a steel girder bridge overlook a mesmerizing deep gorge.
  • After 4-5 hours of driving, arrive in Gangotri and settle down in a guesthouse.
  • Come evening, visit the ghats and witness the stunning ‘aarti’ ceremony one banks of the holy Ganges.

Day 11 : Acclimatisation Day in Gangotri

  • Excursion to Kedartal Lake, Bhoj Kharak
  • Today morning; after breakfast, take an excursion or to be more precise, an acclimatisation walk towards the Kedartal Lake.
  • The route takes you through birch forests and is steep all the way to the small campsite at Bhoj Kharak (3,780 m).
  • Post this walk, return to the campsite and spend overnight.

Day 12 : Trek from Gangotri to Nalla Camp (3,760 m)

  • Bhagirathi River, Rudragaira Nalla, Jogin & Kedartal Peaks
  • The walking trail starts from the true left of the valley and ascends to the Nala Camp.
  • Initially, you will set off on the left of Bhagirathi River and walk for about 30 minutes before turning towards the Rudragaira Nalla.
  • The climb is a gradual uphill through pine and birch forests offers glimpses of the lofty Himalayan peaks like Jogin and Kedartal.
  • Overnight stay will be in camps.

Day 13 : Trek from Nalla Camp to Gangotri-I Base Camp (4,500 m)

  • River Crossing, Rugaira Base Camp, Gangotri-I Base Camp.
  • The day starts with a steep climb to a huge meadow, followed by a river crossing and another steep climb right up to the Rudragaira Base Camp.
  • Hereafter, it continues over the glacial moraine to the Gangotri-I Base Camp, where you will be halting overnight.

Day 14 : A day to acclimatise )

  • Relaxation Day, Stroll around the Campsite
  • This is the day to relax and get acclimatised with the climatic condition.
  • A bit of sidewalk around the camp will be the main schedule for the day.

Day 15 : Trek from Gangotri-I Base Camp to Auden’s Col Base Camp (4,800 m )

  • Gangotri & Jogin Range
  • The hike for the day is quite challenging and one needs to have a high energy level.
  • As you proceed towards the head of the valley with the Gangotri Range (G1, G2 & G3) to the north and the Jogin Group (J1, J2) to the south, the route will get a bit difficult.
  • Once in Auden’s Col, settle down in the camp at the foot of the Col for an overnight stay.

Day 16 : Trek from Auden’s Col to Khatling Glacier Camp-I (5,110 m)

  • 4-5 Hours Trek, the Jaonli Kedarnath, Jogin & Gangotri Peaks
  • An early start is a must today as you will be trekking through glaciers.
  • Expect a bit of tricky walk as the climb gets steeper along the way along with offering astounding views of the Khatling Glacier and the Jaonli Kedarnath, Jogin and Gangotri peaks.
  • Arriving at Khatling Glacier camp, relax and retire for the night.

Reporting Time
Our pick-up location is Haridwar Railway Station at 06:00 AM
On Last Day
Trekkers will be dropped at Dehradun Railway station by 06:00 PM, for onward journey from Haridwar it is advised to make arrangements after 08:00 PM.

Transport to and from the base camp
The above trek cost includes transport to and from base camp.
Safety equipment
First aid, medical kit, oxygen cylinders, stretchers, Walkie-Talkie etc. will be available at campsite.
Accommodation
Stay is included from Day 1 to Last Day. Tents/Homestays/lodges will be provided. Tripple sharing Accommodation and separate accommodation for girls/ladies will be provided
Meals
All meals from dinner on Day 1 to breakfast at Last day are included. Veg food will be provided during the trek.
Permits/ Forest fees
UTT will arrange trekking permits and forest passes.
Experienced Trek Leader & Team
Qualified trek leaders haing in basic / advanced mountaineering courses certificates/ degrees will assist trek.
Other staff member includes qualified cooks, helpers and porters.

Exclusions


Food during transit to and from the base camp
Food would not be provided during transit and trekkers have to bear the cost at their own.
Mule and Porter charges
Generally we expect trekkers to carry their bag-pack and luggage themselves. For those who wish to use Mule/Porter need to pay Rs 350 per day for same.
Personal Expense
Personal Expense of any kind. The trek cost does not include stay at any location on last day
