Mythology About Chorabari Glacier

Chorabari Glacier, also known as the Gandhi Sarovar, holds significance in Hindu mythology and is closely associated with the epic tale of the Ramayana. Here’s a brief overview of the mythology surrounding it:

According to Hindu mythology, it is believed that Lord Rama, accompanied by his wife Sita and his loyal devotee Hanuman, traveled through the region of the Chorabari Glacier during their exile. Legend has it that Sita, the wife of Lord Rama, was captivated by the mesmerizing beauty of the area and expressed her desire to take a dip in the glacial waters. Concerned about the safety of Sita, Lord Rama instructed Hanuman to fetch water from the glaciers instead. Hanuman, in his typical devotion and loyalty, promptly flew to the glacier and, with his immense strength, dug into the ice to create a pool of water, which later came to be known as the Chorabari Tal or Gandhi Sarovar.
