Mythological Sagas and Folk Stories:- goddesses Parvati, Lakshmi, and Saraswati decided to test the strength of their husbands, who were Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva. They sent them to Devi Anusuya’s ashram. When the divine trio arrived, Anusuya warmly welcomed them and offered food. However, the gods posed a unique condition—they would accept the food only if Anusuya served it without wearing clothes. 
Feeling uneasy, Anusuya prayed for guidance. She realized the gods were testing her and cleverly agreed to their condition, but on the condition that they take the form of her sons. The gods agreed, and she served them as her sons. Subsequently, the gods continued to reside at the ashram in the guise of her sons. 
When the goddesses found out and apologized, Anusuya graciously returned their husbands. Since then, this sacred place has been known in honor of Ma Sati.

Trek to Anusuya Devi Temple
The temple is ensconced within a lush forest, accessible via a 12-kilometer trek from Gopeshwar town (starting at Mandal village). As you journey through this verdant path, a spectacular waterfall graces the route, adding to the visual spectacle.

The temple and ashram are located 12 kilometers from Gopeshwar town, accessible via a 5-kilometer trek from Mandal village. To embark on this spiritual voyage, travelers can reach Gopeshwar, which is approximately 17 kilometers from the temple.

  • You can drive or hire a taxi to reach Rishikesh or Haridwar, which are major cities in Uttarakhand and well-connected by road.
  • From Rishikesh or Haridwar, you’ll need to take another taxi or bus to Joshimath, which is a significant town in Chamoli district.
  • From Joshimath, Urgam Village is approximately a 45 km drive via road. You may need to hire a local taxi or take a shared taxi or bus.

By Train

The nearest railway station is in Haridwar or Rishikesh: From Haridwar or Rishikesh railway station, you can proceed as mentioned in the road route.
